11.6.05 2005 Youngstown 4man Fall League
2005 4on4 Fall League
YOUNGSTOWN, OH - In their first season with their newly assembled team, the Blue Devils looked more like they've been playing together for years instead of a team playing in their first season together. At the beginning of the playoffs, everyone expected the obvious... for the Blue Devils to dominate and take home their first league title in two years. As the number one seed, the road to the finals would take only two wins. With the third giving them the title. In the opening round, the Devils made quick work of Kuruption. In the other first round game, the Sting defeated the Roth Gators. In the second round game in the winner's bracket championship, Sting gave the Devils all they could handle. In the end though, the Devils proved to be too much as they outlasted Sting 21-14. In the loser's breacket championship, Kuruption ended the Gators season on the last play of the game. Scott Ratkowski bought time then connected with Craig Sabel on a jump ball in the endzone. Probably the best game of the playoffs was the losers bracket championship game between Sting and Kuruption. On the last drive of the game and trailing by seven. Jason Moore drove his team down with 27 seconds remaining to tie the game as time expired. Going into overtime, Sting got the ball on offense first. On the first play, Jason Moore connected with Andy Bowell for the TD. But the extra point try failed leaving them with a six point lead. Kuruption took their shot at the endzone and scored on their second play. It all came down to the extra point, and just like the game before, the Ratkowski/Sabel connection proved to be Stings' doom. With back to back dramatic wins, the championship game proved to take it's toll on Kuruption. The Devils were well rested and too deep with talent making quick work of Kuruption, going up two scores and never looking back. Seth Steiner was named league MVP.
