5.24.05 2005 USFTL Pittsburgh Major NIT

PITTSBURGH, PA - In our first tournament in the "A" division, we proved we are capable of competing with the top teams in the country. We started off the tournament on fire, defeating H.U.H. of Washington DC by a score of 38-0. The next game proved to be much more of a challenge, facing the OSU Raiders of Columbus, OH. Our defense did an excellent job making the right adjustments to cover their spread offense, holding them to only 14 points and creating a crucial turnover late in the game to preserve the win. In the winners bracket final, we met up with the Young Guns of Beltsville, MD. Their defense played extremely well and proved to be the difference in a 14-0 victory, knocking us into the losers bracket. In the losers bracket final, we met up with the DC Jets, who worked their way up through the losers bracket after losing their first game of the tournament to Players Inc. of Chicago, IL. We jumped on top early 16-0 with two long scores. The DC Jets made a great attempt at a comeback only to fall short 16-12. The championship game against the Young Guns proved to be very similar to our last meeting. After driving the length of the field on our first possession, the Young Guns defense stepped it up when it counted, keeping us scoreless after a field goal attempt sailed wide right. Their offense was very consistent, scoring on three of their four possessions, leading them to a 20-0 victory.
