Devils Fall Short Once Again In Pittsburgh
2007 USFTL Pittsburgh NIT
Blue Devils QB A.J. Saul gets off a pass as two DC Vikings rushers close in on the flag.

For the fourth year in a row the Blue Devils finished in second place at the Pittsburgh Major NIT.  The Devils fought hard all tournament to reach the championship game after losing their first round game against national powerhouse Young Guns 22-20.  The game had an amazing finish as the Devils recovered an onside kick as Shawn Barber made a great flag pull on the Young Guns kick returner just shy of the 20 yard line.  Devils quarterback AJ Saul then connected with WR CJ Lawson in the final seconds to draw the Devils to within two, but the two-point attempt was no good and the Guns hung on to win.  Working their way through the losers bracket would not be easy, but the Devils were able to accomplish the feat particularly because of an amazing effort by their offensive line.  The line consisted of Justin Everett, Scott Murray, and Brandon Augustini.  They created plenty of time for Saul to find his talented core of receivers and the Devils were able to pull past the DC Vikings, Cleveland All-Stars and Red Zone to make it to the championship game.  However, in the championship the Devils would have to twice defeat a very talented DC Jets.  In the first game, the Devils were able to overcome fatigue to defeat the DC Jets thanks to some clutch two-point kicks by Jake Stewart and a total all around show of heart and determination by the Devils.  The “IF” game, however, was all DC Jets as the fresher legs were able to control the game and take home the championship.  Next up for the Devils is the USFTL Metro Cup in May, followed by the YFFA league championships and the YFFA 4man Cash tournament in June.
