After splitting up their 4man
team for league play for the past two years, the Blue Devils
reassembled for the Youngstown Flag Football Association's
4man Cash Tournament as they looked to prove that they are
amongst the best in the Midwest.
After going 2-0
in round-robin play and earning a first-round bye, the Devils
survived an early scare in the second round as it took overtime
to get past D4 (Upper Marlboro, MD). The Devils road to the
championship would not get any easier as they met up with
Joe's Pros, quarterbacked by the OSU Raiders' Chip Smith,
in the semi-finals. This game proved to be equally challenging
as Joe's Pros scored late in the game to pull within a touchdown,
but the Devils offense was able to run out the clock to end
the game and advance to the next round. The winners bracket
championship was a rematch of last years finals
as the Devils met up with 4Play (Detroit, MI). The game lived
up to all the hype as two of the top teams in the Midwest
battled it out to the end, but it was the Devils who came
out on top as they once again proved to be too powerful for
their rival 4Play. The Bulls (Buffalo, NY) upset 4Play in
the losers bracket championship game to advance to the finals
against the Devils, but their long road through the losers
bracket took a toll as they ran out of gas in the championship
game and were no match for the Devils.
